Who Is Baqara?
Clinton & Yvette
It all started with a wedding. Their wedding. Which later turned into an at home floral shop called Shades of Nature. This then spawned the idea of creating a wedding venue in which a bride and groom along with their friends and family can come to and actually enjoy themselves instead of stressing over setup and planning.
Yvette’s personality and creativity are the backbone of what Baqara is. With Yvette at the wheel, she has had a major part in inspiring the Baqara staff members as well as brides getting married to think outside the box and enjoy every minute of your big day.
While Yvette is the beauty and the brains…. I guess that leaves plunging toilets and bartending for Clinton (don’t worry, they are not at the same time). Clinton’s background in engineering and construction as well as his passion for business has been the “ying” to Yvette’s “yang”. Other than tours and bartending, Clinton’s behind the scenes contributions can be shown throughout the aesthetic details of Baqara’s event venues.

Baqara would not have been in existence if it weren’t for the contributions, time and trust of Gary and Diane. Gary has put countless hours into construction of Baqara’s venues and is one of the biggest reasons these venues are the most unique and creative in Central Iowa. Gary maintains the properties at Reclaimed and Coliseum and you occasionally see him behind the bar slingin’ drinks.
With a passion for woodworking, dreams of building a timberframe structure, passing out from laughing with his children and grandson, and recording himself doing impressions of Alvin The Chipmunk, Gary hopes to spend more time working out, woodcarving, finding his Ikigai (Japanese for “a sense of pupose and a feeling of well-being”). Gary is also a rock and blues fanatic.

Knowledgeable, approachable, organized, intelligent, sociable, outgoing…. These words are ones that any business would like to be able to use to describe any given member of the team. Fortunately for Baqara, Katie possesses all of these qualities and then some. Since Katie joined the Baqara team in the Spring of 2018, she has made every aspect of Baqara’s operations more organized and efficient. If you are getting married at one of Baqara’s venues, there is a good possibility that Katie will be your Day of Coordinator, which makes you as a bride and groom one of the luckiest couples in the Central Iowa area. If Katie is at the helm, all you have to worry about is looking good.
The newest member of the Baqara team, this little man brings a whole new life to what Baqara does and what Baqara is all about. We strive to create an experience, not just for your wedding day or big event, but an experience that adds so much joy to your life that you will want to tell everyone about it. That is what this little man means to all of us and we can’t wait for him to be an integral part of the Baqara operations and watch this little dude grow.
No amount of words could describe the impact Diane has had, not only on Baqara’s conception, but on all of the moving pieces to creating an amazing experience for you as the client. There is no way to quantify how much time and energy Diane has put in to making Baqara what it is today. Whether it is floral and decorating, cleaning and setting up, or construction and bartending, Diane has her hands in everything that makes Baqara the place to get married at. Diane has spent most of her career in the customer service industry and has an amazing eye for detail and perfection.
Diane takes her unmatched work ethic to a whole other level when she is being a mom and grandma though. Her family is her passion. When little Everest needs a break from all of his “day-to-day” operations, Grandma is always there to comfort him.
